Saving Money – You Tightwad!
Okay, so now that I have determined WHY I am debt, now I need to figure out HOW to get out of debt! I know I need to quit spending so that is what I am going to focus on today. How can I start saving my money every day?
It seems like you see things in magazines, newspapers, and on the Internet that show you how to cut spending and save money. The problem was, I never wanted to face the fact that I needed that kind of help saving money – so I would ignore those articles! Now I wish I would have paid attention sooner. It is like something has clicked in my head and now all those tips make so much sense – why haven’t I paid attention? I have known how to cut costs and save money for a long time. I just wouldn’t admit it! I needed to come up with my own money saving tips!
One of the first things I have started to do is brown bag it. Everyday I run to the deli or Subway and grab something quick for lunch. Well, those quick lunches we costing me a minimum of $5 per day. I mean really, who can just grab a sandwich – you need chips and a drink to complete it! That $5 per day adds up to $25 per week. When you figure for 50 weeks (subtracting out 2 weeks for vacation, etc.) that is $1250 per year! WOW – when you look at it that way it is a big chunk of change!
Now, I pack my lunch the night before and put it in the fridge. We were given insulated lunch bags as a gift at work a few years ago and now I am finally using it! I can make my lunch as simple or elaborate as I want. Maybe some leftovers, or a salad, and of course sandwiches are always a good standby.
I started packing my lunch about 2 months ago and I am happy to say I am doing great at it. I have only bought lunch a couple of times – and that was because Wendy’s had their baked potatoes for only .99 cents! I have not felt deprived in any way because I am eating tuna while my coworkers are eating Subway. My simple lunch will help me get out of debt!
This is my first step toward saving my money and getting out of debt. It is a little step, but it will help me on my path to becoming debt free!
